Family Federation of Finland (Väestöliitto) Fertility Clinics in Helsinki, Turku and Oulu are on the forefront of applying eHealth –solutions to fertility treatments. Netmedi and Väestöliitto Clinics started developing digital follow-up and communications tool based on Netmedi’s experience in creating similar solutions to cancer care. Kaiku Health for fertility first used in 2013 and has so far guided approximately 800 patients during their treatments. Väestöliitto Clinics is one of the biggest fertility treatment providers in Finland, treating approximately 1000 patients annually.
“We want to stay close to our patients. With Kaiku Health, patients can reach us effortlessly and follow their treatment progress from home or from work place. In our experience, patients nowadays are expecting to have digital solutions to support their treatment. Kaiku Health is our answer to this. It is important for us to develop solutions enabling not only better communication with the patients, but also the follow-up of the treatment outcomes and the patient quality of life”, says Anne-Maria Suikkari, Medical and Managing Director at Family Federation of Finland, Fertility Clinics
Timely support for patients
Väestöliitto Clinics has been utilizing Kaiku® Health for patient-staff communication, gathering information and following treatment outcomes and quality of life (FertiQol questionnaire). Based on the survey conducted by Netmedi, 98 % of the patients experienced Kaiku Health as a beneficial way to communicate with their care team. Continuous contact with the patients during treatment enables the care team to provide comprehensive support for the patient.
“When we first started with Kaiku Health, our nurses were afraid that it would burden them with additional duties on top of the daily routines. Soon we noticed that Kaiku Health actually improves our care processes and allows us to focus on those patients who need us the most. We can answer the patient’s questions timely, and unnecessary calls have diminished in number”, explains Eeva-Liisa Sirviö, Head Nurse at Family Federation of Finland, Fertility Clinics.
Kaiku® Health –service has been under constant development based on the feedback from Väestöliitto Clinics’ medical team and the patients. ”Reduced psychological barrier to getting in touch with the clinic contributes to a more holistic treatment process. We are currently exploring the possibility of utilizing the integrated video connection to complement the visits to the clinic in cases where patient lives far away”, tells Suikkari.
