Digitizing the follow-up of prostate cancer

Kaiku® Health contains follow-up programs automating patient-reported outcome follow-up of both localized and advanced prostate cancer. Kaiku® Health follows the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement’s (ICHOM) standard set for localized and advanced prostate cancer follow-up. The ICHOM standard set includes the follow-up of:

  • Symptoms (EPIC-26, The Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite)
  • Quality of life (EORTC QLQ-PR25)

Kaiku® Health’s dashboard filters patients based on their symptoms, and visualizes the subscores of follow-up questionnaires. The ICHOM standard set for localized prostate cancer was published in European Urology: http://www.ichom.org/files/articles/ICHOM-Localized-Prostate-Cancer.pdf

By integrating Kaiku® Health to hospital’s laboratory system, Kaiku® Health automates the delivery of PSA results for patients. The features of Kaiku® Health automated PSA include:

  • Managing PSA risk levels of individual patients
  • SMS reminders for patients to take PSA tests
  • Automated delivery of PSA results within risk limits via SMS – directly to patient’s phone
  • In case PSA levels exceed the risk limits, clinical staff is alarmed
  • Dashboard to follow on the progress of PSA results

Kaiku® Health automated PSA follows the RTOG-ASTRO Phoenix definition: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16798415?dopt=Abstract

Implementing Kaiku® Health automated PSA follow-up does not require exhausting efforts at your clinic. With its two-bound interfaces (HL7, REST/JSON, XML), Kaiku® Health is integrated to several laboratory systems and electronic medical health records to automate the patient-reported outcome, and PSA follow-up. We take care of managing the implementation and integration project, which makes the implementation smooth not only for the clinic, but also for the IT department of a hospital. The implementation of Kaiku® Health typically consists of following steps:

  1. Setting up the project team The project team consists of representatives from Netmedi, the clinic and the IT department
  2. Determining the follow-up protocols and follow-up process We get acquainted with the clinic’s current patient pathways to rethink how patient-reported outcomes and automated PSA follow-up best support the follow-up process of the clinic
  3. System integrations Required integrations between Kaiku® Health and electronic medical records and laboratory system are created to automate the documentation of patient-reported outcome measures, and the delivery of the PSA results
  4. User training We providea comprehensivetraining session to the clinical staff at your clinic
  5. Start of the use The automated follow-up of prostate cancer patients is ready to start at your the clinic
