This week I had the pleasure of presenting Kaiku Health at a self-care seminar organized by Pharmaceutical Information Centre Ltd (Lääketietokeskus Oy) here in Helsinki. At the event, there were speakers from various institutions and companies within health care industry. I was glad to notice that patient-centricity seemed to be the main buzz word at the seminar. In self-medication, this means giving out instructions in patient-friendly language for some of the most common indications and also making clear distinction when patient should contact healthcare professionals.
More patient friendly medical content is needed in order to give the patients more control over their own health and providing them with more accurate information. Actually Duodecim has recently published self-medication instructions for a few indications: http://www.kaypahoito.fi/web/kh/potilaalle/suositus?id=khp00114&suositusid=hoi50106

Self-care instructions and eHealth applications share a similar mindset: both aim to empower and help the patients on their recovery. To reach this common goal, we have to take concrete actions towards patient-centric healthcare and enhance the usability of self-care content.
